New Ventures, Inc. is seeking an individual to train in textiles on an industrial sewing machine to produce area rugs, carpet bags and blankets, and cove base.

Using carpet from local companies, this position sews tote bags and wine bags with unbacked carpet.   

Carpet blankets made from unbacked carpet and lined with fabric are sewn for a local customer.  This requires pounding the finished product with a mallet so the blanket lays flat.

Area carpet rugs are received, rugs cut out by pattern and surged with binding to maintain the carpet fibers.

Cove Base is made from carpet cut into strips using customer provided measurements. Once cut, the carpet strips are sewn with binding to finish the product.

Essential Duties for sewing tote bags and wine bags :

• Lay the pattern on the carpet and cut using handheld scissors.
• Cut the lining using the same process.
• Using a regular sewing machine, sew the bag and then insert the liner into the bag and sew the two together.
• Cut nylon straps for the handles and sew together. Sew handles to the bag.
• Turn the bag inside out so the carpet is on the outside.

Essential Duties for sewing hospitality blankets :

• Lay the pattern on the unbacked carpet and cut.
• Lay the pattern for the liner on the fabric and cut.
• Sew the unbacked carpet and liner together leaving a small opening to turn the item right side out.
• Using a regular sewing machine, sew the opening so that the stitches match.
• Once item is sown, use a 4 lb. mallet to beat the blanket to lay flat.

Essential Duties for sewing cove base:

• Thread the sewing machine making sure needles, foot pedals, and guides are clean and clear of debris.
• Review paperwork for the order, pull the binding, and place it on the stand. Thread the machine and sew the carpet strips so the binding is on each side of the strip.
• Monitor:
  • the binding and the thread to ensure you do not run out.
  • Thread skips and binding skips.
• Complete entire order, request labels and packing slip from Production Manager.
• Shrink wrap each cove base roll, attach the label, and place on the cart for shipment.

Essential Duties for cutting area rugs and cove base:

• Verify the carpet roll label to the customer book.
• Roll out the rug and cut it based on the rug pattern. Place trimmings in the carpet scrap box. Using the air from the air table, slide the rug to the Mechanic for surging.
• Cove base requires verifying the style, specs, and dimensions to the purchase order.
• Use a handheld cutting tool to trim the webbing off the side of the carpet.
• Roll the carpet out to the correct length, use the powered carpet cutter to cut the cove base to the required dimensions.
• All cuts must be straight and match the dimensions on the purchase order.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to read and write.
• Ability to use and accurately read measurement tools such as rulers, yardsticks, etc.
• Ability to crawl and sit on your knees majority of the work day.
• Accuracy for cutting, measuring, and sewing.
• Accurate reading of rulers and/or yardsticks.
• Ability to:
  • consistently pound carpet with a 4-pound mallet.
  • stand and sit for extended period of times.
  • visual inspection to determine if carpet fits the pattern, to read orders, and compare the work to the order requirements.
  • push rolls of carpet weighing 80 lbs.

PREFERENCES:

• Experience sewing various fabric types
